In Switzerland physiotherapy and rehabilitation are widely covered - but the rules change depending on the treatment. The centre's reception handles the paperwork for you. Here is how it works, clearly.
With a medical referral, basic insurance (LAMal) covers physiotherapy and rehabilitation sessions according to official tariffs: usually a first series of 9 sessions, renewable. You only pay the deductible and the co-payment.
Referral requiredManual therapy, massage therapy and physical therapies are not always part of basic insurance but are often reimbursed by complementary insurance (complementary medicine), usually at a percentage per session up to an annual cap. Check your policy: the centre helps you read it.
Direct accessThe centre's therapists are recognised by the RME and ASCA (EMR) registers: this is the condition complementary insurers require to reimburse manual therapies. The invoice carries all the codes you need for your reimbursement claim.
Depends on the caseIf your condition comes from an accident, rehabilitation is covered by accident insurance (LAINF), through your employer or your own policy. In these cases the centre handles the paperwork directly with the insurer.

For physiotherapy by referral we bill the health insurer directly where possible (third-party payer). For manual therapies you pay the session and send the invoice to your complementary insurer for reimbursement; reception prepares everything for you.
